Creating BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death)

Posted by DPaoloMBarroga ™ on Friday, March 4, 2011

While it may seem odd to think about purposefully causing a Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD), Microsoft includes such a provision in Windows XP. This might come in handy for testing and troubleshooting your Startup And Recovery settings, Event logging, and for demonstration purposes.

Here's how to create a BSOD: (For Manual)

1. Launch the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters.
3. Go to Edit, select New | DWORD Value and name the new value CrashOnCtrlScroll.
4. Double-click the CrashOnCtrlScroll DWORD Value, type 1 in the Value Data textbox, and click OK.
5. Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows XP.

When you want to cause a BSOD, press and hold down the [Ctrl] key on the right side of your keyboard, and then tap the [ScrollLock] key twice. Now you should see the BSOD.

If your system reboots instead of displaying the BSOD, you'll have to disable the Automatically Restart setting in the System Properties dialog box. To do so, follow these steps:

1. My Computer Properties. (Or simply Press [Windows]-PauseBreak for shortcut)
2. Select the Advanced tab.
3. Click the Settings button in the Startup And Recovery panel.
4. Clear the Automatically Restart check box in the System Failure panel.
5. Click OK twice.

Here's how you remove the BSOD configuration:

1. Launch the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters.
3. Select the CrashOnCtrlScroll value, pull down the Edit menu, and select the Delete command.
4. Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows XP.

Note: Editing the registry is risky, so make sure you have a verified backup before making any changes.

*Or Download the Registry File (Without Editing your Registry)

(NOTE: Always restart your operating system when done editing your windows registry to take effect)

Let your friends freak out for fake virus >:)

Posted by DPaoloMBarroga ™ on

This isn't really a virus ... its simply a shutdown program which will make your friends freak out.

First, you will need to Delete the shortcut of "My Computer" icon on your desktop (Don't Worry that's only a My Computer shortcut).

Second, you will now create a new FAKE "My Computer" icon by creating a desktop shortcut.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Create Shortcut Window will open. In that box, write the following:

shutdown -s -t 10 -c "VIRUS DETECTED!!"

(note: the number 10 can be replaced by any other number. That number corresponds to the number of seconds before the computer will shutdown. Here I have chosen 10 in order to have enough time to close it before my computer shuts down. Also, the message between quotes can be replaced by something like "YOU HAVE BEEN INFECTED BY A TROJAN VIRUS" or some other great idea. However, the message must be between quotes.)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

simply click on Next and Change the name that you want for it. In this case I have chosen "My Computer  but it can always be renamed how you prefer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

click on Finish and ... here's your shutdown virus!!!! Not very convincing right? Well, in that case let's change our icon!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Select Change Icon

(Note: A box saying "system 32 does not have any icons choose from a different list" or something like that may pop-up; if it does simply click on Ok)

------------------------------------------------------------------

Now... it depends on what you have named your shutdown virus ... If you chose My Computer scroll all the way to the right and you will find the icon. If you did not choose Internet Explorer feel free to choose a different icon... Remember it has to be something that people will click on.

Now Here's our Icon ... Now it looks like something that people will click on.

hehehe

Internet Download Manager Version 6.05

Posted by DPaoloMBarroga ™ on

Don't let the dull name fool you: Internet Download Manager is a full-featured package that handles downloading tasks with aplomb. It conveniently integrates into your browser, even if you use Mozilla or Opera up to 16 Connection of download.

It automatically sorts incoming files by file type and puts them in the appropriate folder. Most importantly, it supercharges download speeds (it doubled ours). Its windowed interface is clean and easy to understand. Power users can take advantage of the command line interface to resume file transfers, schedule downloads, connect through dial-up, or log on to password-protected sites. Experienced users also can limit the number of connections, the download speeds for specific sites, and even create an exception list to block specific, user-defined sites.

Other features include automatic virus checking and the ability to download all files linked to a page. The new version has a Web spider that can analyze a site and retrieve, for example, all the images on it.
Internet Download Manager strikes us as a natural choice for users in need of a trusty transfer tool. Version 5.11 build 5 added FLV grabber that can be used to download videos from YouTube, Google Video, MySpaceTV, and other popular sites.
